in detail
The Jewish Museum was founded in 1987 by Aron Neuman. The concept of the museum relates to the presentation of the history of Swedish Jewry, the assimilation of Jews into Swedish society and their contribution to Swedish culture, art, literature and industry. Aside from that, the museum provides information about Jewish culture and religion, their rituals and customs in the synagogue and at home.
The Museum, the only one of its kind in any Scandinavian country, is part of the Swedish Association of Museums. Since 1992 it has had its own building. One of the rooms houses the permanent collection; another is used for temporary exhibits. Since its opening, the Museum has hosted numerous special exhibits on various aspects of Jewish life in Sweden.
Yearly, more than 10.000 people visit the Museum, an extremely high number for Sweden.
