in detail
During the time of the rule of the Nationalsocialists Jews, living in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, were contantly persecuted. Since 1938 they were forced to sell their property and to leave the city. Some former members of the Jewish community managed to escape abroad. But the majority got displaced to concentration camps and got killed over there.
There hasn't been an intense disput over the local nationalsocialist past, for a long time. Only recently an accounting for the past started. 2010, a memorial inclusive information screens, created by the artist Herbert Saller, got inaugurated.
